Considered one among the Screen's great Noir films is that of Stanley Kubrick's 'The Killing' starring Sterling Hayden in a race-track heist gone wrong. It was released in 1956.

****Sidney Lumet . A Hollywood Legend. contd. from an earlier post.
As I had written on the great Sidney Lumet, assessing a Man's life that too of a Man who glorified NYC through out most of the Films, it is indeed a reflection of his dalliance with a City where he spent his life thus interpreting on his views of the Big Apple/a concrete jungle/ or about it's Residents  resident's any critic, in-spite of  being a resident throughout might have an opinion of any city coz  City as dirty ,,daylight  mugging/ of being crowded hell/ etc etc. Don't u pse county me out, it's of a by-stander & a critic , in saying of the rot that has been discussed without any radical or a comprehensive plan ,coz I too want a change but waiting for a reaction by someone to start the engine , so that I too can join if, I see that that guy is not a worthy opponent. I narrated this lines coz like Martin Scorsese of the 'Raging Bull'(80), 'Taxi Driver' with the thespian  Robert DeNiro were doling out hits with NYC as its base based on NYC as the base , being the 2nd Dir to use this low-life USA & the people wanting change actually doing however lil they can .
As a mater of this craft, his debut film 12 Angry Men , Network, & 'Dog day Afternoon' r my fave among his many classic cinema .Lumet's(78)with stars like Al Pacino, John Cazale who has an unique record of acting in only 5 major movies & all  getting an AAN* of which Godfather & its 2nd part(72 &74) the only sequel to win Best-Pic in 1974 in Oscar historiography after acting in 'The Deer Hunter'. Lumet's Dog day afternoon was based on a real bank robbery, as the Robbery was done with Pacino's transsexual lover played by Cazale, planned by Wojtowicz the real robber, though the script was changed at the end , the real one decamped with $2000,000+ grands. . Another fact is that the real robber planned his heist at the Manhattan Bank after watching 'Godfather' where the 2 actors had  major roles., playing the role of Mikey & the youngest son of Vito Corleone .In his career Lumet was nominated 4 times in the Best-Dir category, his 1st ever movie '12 Angry Men' got him an AAN..**
*Academy Award **Nomination..
